While naming our property management project, we remember our pioneering days at Mighty Rivers when Mother Lapp affectionately referred to Costa Rica as “the promised land.” Indeed, three generations of Lapps settled here, adopting the land and loving its people and freedom. Seven years ago Mother (Barbara P. Lapp) was laid to rest a few miles from the farm, beneath the shadow of several tall royal palm trees.  We remember her struggle to live and her passion to serve and love. We are assured that her warm spirit still lives and shines upon us, in the land she had adopted. Most of all we love the connotation of “Promised Land” as being a condition of our hearts – a place of rest -that calls us out of the kingdoms of this world, and causes us to love, work and live in harmony with people and nature.

Since our settlement in the hillsides of La Alegria de Siquirres, people from various parts of the world have joined us in conservation and permaculture activities that make the La Alegria neighborhood a model for healthy, tropical living. We truly appreciate the freedom, adventure and beauty that the Caribbean coast has to offer. If you want to stake out a place to call your own, either for retirement, part time residence or a full-fledged homestead, we can help you get started. Please note that here in Costa Rica we measure land by the hectare and square meter. There are 2.4 acres in a hectare, and 10,000 square meters in a hectare.

Most of the properties we contract fall into either homestead, eco-developement or preservation catagories. Homestead properties range from about 1 to 20 hectares, suited for year around gardening and animal husbandry. Eco-development properties are suited for dividing into lots and creating lodges or residences. (Property here is almost tax free, and there are few building restrictions.) Preservation properties are less expensive per hectare and much larger, suited for putting into some type of nature preservation or reforestation program, which in turn reimburses the owner for keeping the land pristine and undeveloped.

Argentina

Northwest of the mountain range that is home to Mighty Rivers Eco-farm, there is a very rural area known as Argentina. So, let's just call this 200 square meter home Argentina.
